I love Radio

It’s so much easier to fit into my life than the telly, what with the aid of Listen Again, podcasts and goodness knows what. So as a suitable Sunday evening work avoidance activity I thought I’d list (and link) my favorite shows at the moment.

So, in no particular order:

In Our Time Yaaay for podcasts – brain food on your iPod!

Sunday Evening Choral Evensong – listening right now to this afternoon’s broadcast from St. Pauls.

I’m Sorry I Haven’t a Clue

Chris Evans Drivetime I’ve always liked Chris’ shows, even back to his days chatting up Holly Hotlips on R1

Bob Dylan Theme Time Radio Hour If you’ve never listened to this, I can’t recommend it enough.

Mike Harding

The Choir

PM (For some reason I’ve never really got on with the Today Programme)

The Shipping Forecast It’s vital that I know how things are up in South East Iceland before I set out for work…..

Poetry Please

These are just scratching the surface. And anyhow, some of my best experiences are the shows I come across by accident. I was driving back to the office from a meeting last week and tuned into Jarvis Cocker telling us about the history of zines. Just brilliant.

I really do not like, cannot stand even:
Terry Wogan
Steve Wright
You and Yours

Sad to say, Radio 1 is now a lost continent to me. I enjoy Radio 6, but haven’t got into its routines. I wish I had the time to listen to Radio 7, maybe one day. I’ve nver tuned into Radio 5 Live and I don’t think I ever will. I quite like Classic FM, it’s much easier to listen to in the car than Radio 3 – which is not to denigrate R3, far from it. But you need decent acoustics and time to concentrate to get the best out of it most of the time.

Oh and I do like the Archers, a bit. I don’t really keep up to date with it though.

Lets hope he doesn’t read this blog

My 13 year old son, that is.

This afternoon I put a Thomas DVD on for T (the 5-year old autistic one). With nothing better to do at the time, S my super cool adolescent lad settled down to watch it with him.

T wandered off after about 15 minutes. An hour later I realised S was still up there, glued to the box. So I walked into the room, brandishing the vacuum cleaner. His reaction……….

“Awwww, Mum! Can’t you wait till the end of this episode!”

Hee hee
