Space and Sweden

Forgot the camera again (!!!!)

But today, we went to Jodrell Bank
Jodrell Bank

We were most impressed by the scale model of the solar system. The sun is at Jodrell Bank (Cheshire), Mercury is in the next village, Earth somewhere in Manchester and so on. Pluto is in Aberdeen!

There’s lots to do there, but most of it is outdoors and the weather was absolutely cr**py, so after 40 minutes or so we headed off to IKEA for a plate of meatballs and chips and the opportunity to replace our wrecked bedding (see the entry below)

Arrgh! Mess!

We must be entering a new, messy phase. T has a bit of an obsession with toileteries, shampoo bottles and the like. He loves to wander around flapping them. But this afternoon, he managed to get the top off a bottle of Capasal therapeutic shampoo. Which he proceeded to tip all over our bed.

Ho hum, off to Argos tomorrow to buy a carpet cleaner and a new duvet.

Oh Poo!

This one doesn’t happen to us very often, but is sadly an everyday fact of life for many people caring for someone on the spectrum.

After tea today, T disappeared upstairs. Everyone was in relaxed mood and we had a guest, so we left him to his own devices for 20 minutes or so. After a while Mr. BK wandered off to see what the boys were up to. And what did he find, but T scampering around with his nappy off and its contents all over our bedroom carpet!!

Formby Point

The Knitting family specialises in forgetting to take the camera on days out, but here is a Google image of where we went this afternoon, just north of Liverpool

Formby Point

Acres of sand dunes, red squirrels and an ice-cream van. T didn’t know what to do with his lolly, so Mr BK had to finish it off for him (tragic!). Then he suddenly got the idea, and mugged me for mine!

How to win customers and do well in business (no irony here for once)

I went shopping in Lytham this morning (Blackpool’s posh neighbour). I needed some new bras and wanted to check out a lingerie shop that I hadn’t been in before which happened to be having a sale.

And I had to take T with me. :o

An autistic 4-year old with severely impaired communication skills and absolutely no understanding of the world around him makes an unpredictable shopping companion to say the least. Particularly if I need to try things on. Sometimes he is fairly calm, but if he gets put out he can be a complete git and make the whole trip impossible. I always restrain him in his buggy, but it’s getting a bit small for him and he is quite capable of tipping it backwards if he is so minded. Not to mention the screaming.

So it was with trepidation that we entered a small, beautifully laid out boutique with a stunning sale rail. And the proprietress was absolutely lovely to T. She started trying to talk to him immediately and wasn’t phased when I explained about his autism. When I went into the changing room for 15 minutes to try on a mountain of different styles, she just sat down and chatted to him the whole time. And he was happy and calm the whole time.

So there you are folks, an ASDFriendly approved bra shop – Pure Mischief, Henry Street, Lytham.
