Hubris………..Nemesis

I thought I could handle our Junior Church’s Infants Group. After all I’ve helped out enough times. All I had to do was plan a few games, a bible study and decide what craft activity to do. All the ideas were in the resources book. I knew they were lively, but after all ……. most of them are only 5.

Aarrrrrggghhh!

How wrong I was.

I won’t go into much detail apart from the fact that my designated helper didn’t turn up and the badges that I tried to get them to make turned into soggy gluey horrid things. Suffice it to say that I ended up after church in a soggy heap myself being consoled by the vicar’s wife (mother of two of my charges so she knew what I’d just been through).

The funny bit is - I’ve got to do it again next week!

My Desert Island Discs

1. Beethoven, Symphony No’ 9 “Choral” (There has to be Beethoven and really it has to be this)

2. Mozart’s Requiem (ditto)

3. Teenage Kicks by The Undertones (It was my favorite before it was John Peel’s - honest)

4. Joe Hill sung by Paul Robeson (To remind me of my childhood - a favorite of my Dad’s)

5. Fantasia on a Theme by Thomas Tallis - Vaughan Williams (beautiful and peaceful, the essence of England)

6. Tangled Up in Blue by Bob Dylan (This one will remind me of my man)

7. Burning Down the House by Talking Heads (cos they are the greatest rock band ever and cos David Byrne is a genius)

8. Liszt Piano Concerto No’ 2 (I love piano concertii and this is my favorite)

Book: Well, I already have the Bible for my soul and Shakespeare for my mind. So I think it has to be the complete Calvin and Hobbes by Bill Watterson.

Luxury: A daily double espresso.

Election Special

Quick update for anyone who is interested (and I can’t imagine there can be many of you)

Nope, I can’t do it. I can’t bring myself to vote Libdem. I’ve tried really hard, but their policy on local income tax just sucks. I got collared by the parliamentary candidate when i was in town the other day and spoke to him for 20 minutes. He seems a personable enough chap, but not very knowledgable (wise enoough to admit he didn’t know anything about autism).

Fraid it’s going to have to be Labour, but only cos I can’t think of who else to vote for.

Anyone want to try and convince me otherwise in the next 24 hours (no racist or otherwise offensive comments will be tolerated btw)?

Update 7th May - I voted Libdem in the end. Rubbish economic policies, but on the right track for Civil Liberties. The End.
