So, who should I vote for?

Time to talk politics.

First of all, what issues and principles are important to me in my decision? Well, while I admire and support the “Autism Counts” campaign, this one issue on it’s own is probably not going to be sufficient to give me my final choice. I’m cynical enough to think that none of the major parties will really do anything substantial about this. it jsut ain’t high enough up the radar.

Similarly, it’s not just about the economy, stupid. Maybe I just feel too secure in my own economic position, but there are other issues that concern me more than how the election will hit my pocket.

Next, the parties.

Well, Labour ought to have everything going for it. I do think they have a handle on the economy. I like their social policies (Sure Start, New Deal etc) I also supported the war in Iraq. But I am deeply, irrevocably pissed off about the proposals for identity cards and the detention of terrorist suspects without due process. They also need to lose their landslide.

Tories. Hmmm, best that can be said about their campaign is that they haven’t really given the BNP any room to breathe.

Liberal democrats Well, I wouldn’t trust them with the economy, but I really like a lot of their social policy ideas. They aren’t going to win the election of course, but it might not be a bad thing for them to increase their number of seats - to strengthen the conscience of government if you like.

RespectDunno enough about them

UKIP Umm, well I belive in the European Union, so that’s a bit of a deal breaker with this lot.

Veritas Kilroy Silk was on the radio ths afternoon. A nasty piece of work IMHO.

The final consideration of course is who are my local candidates. But i need to do some mroe research and think some more.

I haven’t the first idea about politics so please keep this updated if you get a chance and I might get an idea of what they are up to. I think I need an idiot guide becasue I find it all soooo confusing. Usually they are just bitching about the opposition and not giving concrete promises to what they intend to do, just say how the other parties have failed.
I don’t understand any of it and haven’t got a clue who to vote for…
